Prime8: The weekly web roundup 26/05/2014

27th May 2014 0 comments Article Uncategorised

Prime8 is sad this week. He accidently voted UKIP because he thought it was a party that celebrated having mid-afternoon naps. When we told him the truth he was pretty upset, especially when he discovered Nigel Farage is, in fact, a real person and not, as Prime8 thought, a comedy creation invented to shine a light on the ugliest facets of human morality. Nevermind Prime8, at least no one else will be stupid enough to vote for them.

Oh hang on…

How to actually use LinkedIn as a powerful sales tool

We’ve been experimenting with LinkedIn ourselves this week. Turns out it’s not just a platform for ridiculously cheesy business-suit-wearing avatars and vomit-inducing corporate speak. Done right it can be a powerful marketing and sales tool for your business. Here’s some tips you can easily adapt and test yourselves.

Another fun game is to add the phrase “… where I quickly developed a reputation as a ladies man” to each section of your LinkedIn CV. But I digress…

The importance of choosing the right product platform
Seems a bit obvious, but when you are developing a new web app, it’s pretty important to define what platforms will work best for it. Here’s a great morality tale form recruitment site TheLadders about how the swap from HTML5 site to native app revolutionised their business.

Another landing page lecture
We’ve done a few of these ‘the importance of the optimised landing page’ articles in other editions but this one’s too good not to link to. It’s a step-by-step guide to designing an awesome landing page for your business, product or services. Plus if we don’t keep telling you you’ll never learn.

How to setup a successful meeting group
One of the more lesser known sales tactics most companies seem to ignore is the setting up of industry-focussed meetup groups. A chance for people in your industry to get together, chat, network and eat Aldi brand cocktail sausages. Here’s a brill little ‘how to’ article on setting up a successful meetup.

We’d do it but developers are a famously socially awkward lot. *looks over shoulder and shouts* Right guys? Guys? Right?… No, they’re not answering.

Facebook ads Vs Google ads
Google is miles ahead of Facebook in terms of selling business ads. I’m guessing a lot of you reading this have at least looked into Google Ads at some point. But Facebook ads? Nah. It’s all cat pictures, cyber-bullying and cod-philiosophy right?

There is a big argument for Facebook promotion though. This article shows their are times when it’s a valid alternative to Google for advertising your business.

Snapchat as a sales tool? Oh come on! Seriously?

Yup. OK so Snapchat is MAINLY people taking pictures of their naughty bits when drunk but, as with any popular social tool, it can be used as a cool sales and marketing platform. Have a look.

GGA’s website of the week:

I don’t know what’s going on with running clothing/footware companies at the moment but they’re knocking their web promos out of the park. Check this out.

… and finally.

Have you heard of Big Johns takeaway chain? They’re a bit grim really. Anyway, they’ve just released this incredible piece of advertising genius. Spike Jonze must be bricking it.

Want to feel all smug and have the Prime8 delivered direct to your inbox every Saturday? Just go here and give us your email address. Oh go on, you know you want to.
Until next week…
