As regular readers will know, we always open a Prime8 with some hilarious (what? It is!) comment on a topical news piece. But we’re struggling to think of anything that happened this week. It’s been so quiet. Nothings happened that we know of. Nope. Nothing…
Lol.
Here’s this weeks web roundup…
Ooh that sneaky cheating software
So VW are in crisis mode after the revelations that they have been cheating on US emission tests. This is a massive, global f**k up kinda deal and really highlights the fact that we live in an era where software dictates all.
This months Slack love letter
Yeah yeah, we love Slack here at GGA. But that’s only because it’s awesome, and that’s really the main reason it has become an essential tool for companies all over the world. So how did it become so ridiculously popular? Find out the secret behind Slack’s multi-billion dollar ‘secret sauce’ here.
Y’know what else is an awesome tool? Excel.
No seriously, Excel is amazing (stop laughing… it is!). Used properly it can be the single most useful piece of software in any company. I bet everyone reading this has used it in some capacity. But here’s the thing… we all suck at Excel! Here’s why.
The shared startup
Setting up a modern business startup has become it’s own art form over the past 5 years. Using growthhacks and disruptive techniques to quickly spin up a company has created a huge new ecosystem of entrepreneurialism. But the modern startup is already evolving and is itself being disrupted. Welcome to the age of the collaborative startup company.
The rules of launching a new product
New product and service launches happen almost continuously nowadays to the point where there are now proven, tested rules that any business can follow to maximise impact and exposure. Here’s a cool little overview of the simple rules you should follow when launching your world-changing new product.
The most wanted man on the internet
Kim Dotcom. If you know that name you’ll think he’s even a hero of the free-internet movement or he’s nothing but a common criminal. If you don’t know the name then this will give you a peek into a world you may not want to revisit (it’s basically a fat, rich American acting like a bit of a tool).
GGA’s app of the week:
Buzzsumo is the biggest and best of a host of new software that helps you not only analyse your social media reach, but also helps you find your target audiences, create relevant social content and then make sure it gets in front of the right people to help spread your message. It’s pretty great and anyone who’s serious about marketing their company effectively should try it RIGHT NOW!
… and finally.
Rapper, ‘actor’, adult entertainment raconteur and recreational drug aficionado, Snoop Dogg, is launching a lifestyle web platform called ’Merry Jane’. I wonder if you can guess what that’s about? No great shock he’d do this eventually but the fact that he launched it at global tech event, TechCrunch Disrupt, is all a bit surreal.
