Prime8 – the weekly GGA web roundup 07/7/2014

7th July 2014 0 comments Article Uncategorised
A special hello to all our new readers this week. If you bore witness to the epic cluster f**k that was our Prime8 promotional email campaign then you’ll know that getting our new friends on board was, shall we say, a tad problematic?

Our regular readers though will know that this is just business as usual for GGA. It’s all part of the charm of a small business and, after all, who wants the sterile perfection of big business marketing? They never screw up right? Right?

15 awesome pieces of awesome awesomeness
Here’s a nifty list of 15 new and underused apps that will make your life a little bit better (or worse really). Be warned though, the article contains overkill use of the word ‘awesome’ and features the ‘Yo’ app (bleugh!).

Google’s Material design
This week Google announced they were unifying all the design across their entire network of apps and tools. To do this they have created the concept of ‘Material Design’, an advanced form of ‘brand guideline’ that has an insane level of detail.

Think like a successful person
Ever wondered how the repeatedly successful entrepreneur thinks? (In terms of business I mean, not about, say shoes, or badgers, or Ed Miliband). Of course you have! In this interview serial success-monger, Jonathan Siegel, breaks down his ‘startup formula’.

Uber-geddon!
The inexplicably fast rise of app-based Taxi firm, Uber, has been nothing short of ridiculous. It now has operations in 70+ cities around the world and growing. How has this happened? Does anyone know who actually uses it? What’s a taxi? All these questions and less are answered in this Slideshare.

Another tech buzzword that you may just have to adopt
You’ve no doubt heard the new(ish) term ‘Internet of Things’ or ‘IoT’. If not, it’s basically a catch-all name for the practice of taking physical objects and giving them a network presence – essentially connecting everything to the internet. This can apply to anything, for example: household objects or medical hardware, or cats, or shoes, or Ed Miliband. This site explains it better to be honest.

How to do blogging all good and that
Ah the humble blog. Anyone can do one, and many, MANY do. Very few do it well though, which is a shame as a regularly populated blog can be a killer weapon in a business’s marketing arsenal (*cough* shameless self-promotion *cough*). If your blogging skills need a bit of TLC, you can do worse than check out this ‘101’ type article.

GGA’s website of the week
This is a rather intense, scrolling-led experience that will make you think twice about going on a boat again.

… and finally.
With the indignity of the US being loads better than us at footy this month, here’s an American view of the World Cup. “I am McLovin!"
